The Old Fashioned Gospel Hour on WIRO & WMLV

For over 50 years, The Old Fashioned Gospel Hour Radio Broadcast became a household favorite for great local Gospel Singing, Testimonies and fire and brimstone preaching from the Late Rev. Orville Carrico and Son, Norman Carrico.

Rev. Carrico, a Lawrence County Pastor and Evangelist was self-employed and lived on Bald Knob.

For many years he had a Sunday Morning Broadcast on AM1230 WIRO/FM 107.1 WMLV in Ironton and a Sunday Evening Broadcast on FM 104.1 WPAY in Portsmouth.

The Broadcast was introduced as being “under the direction of Pastor Orville Carrico and Son”.

Orville’s Son, Norman was also a staple of the program.

In later years and through the end of the Broadcast, The Old Fashioned Gospel Hour Featured the Old Baptist Quartet from Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church in Scottown, Ohio on Greasy Ridge.

The Quartet Featured Bernice McCarty, his wife Verna, Verna’s Sister, Mary “Eloise” Myers and Eloise’s Husband, Dale Myers.

Verna is the sole survivor of the Quartet and is still an active member of Old Baptist Church.

The four traveled to local Churches throughout the local Church Circuit and Tri-State Area and were the singers for The Old Fashioned Gospel Hour Broadcast for many years.

Bernice and Verna lived in Aid, Ohio.

As it related to Fox Fairview Church, Dale and Eloise Lived in Patriot, Ohio about a mile and a half from Fox Fairview Church.

Dale was the son of Allen and Pearl Myers of Scottown and the Father of Diane, Pam, Butch and Bub.

We would like to thank Verna McCarty and Debbie Short for their contribution of this audio. We are working on mastering other audio files they have contributed for your enjoyment and will share them soon.

God Bless You!
